In 2004, a joint venture agreement was signed with Continental AG to produce steelcords in Romania. Then in 2005, Pirelli sold its cables and energy systems and telecommunications to Goldman Sachs, and also opening the first tyre plant in Shandong province, China.

Cintuarto P7 was introduced based on the research to develop tyre energy efficiency (green philosophy). In 2010, Pirelli transformed into "pure tyre company" by spinning off with other business sectors. Pirelli became the exclusive tire supplier for Formula 1™ since 2011.
